An effective solution for monitoring your servers or websites. Get immediate warning, when something will be wrong. Starting from as low as EUR 0.3 / mo. It's a small price for your safety. I-monitor.xyz brings you an easy solution to monitor your own servers. We do not take care, if your website hosting is based on cloud services from Amazon EC2, Google Cloud Compute Engine, Rackspace, MS Azure or own dedicated solution. What is the best PHP CMS?

CMS is a short term for Content Management System. Probably the best known system, with the larges audience and largest pool of developers is Wordpress, which was developed in 2004. Used as a tool for simple blogs, this platform currently serves more than 20% of internet traffic. This platform was open for all developers, who could easily add new plugins, addons and another usefull extensions. Nowadays, it can easily serve you as a primary platform for your ecommerce store, company website, or old-fashion blog as well. Another bonus is that this system is free to install, released under open-source licence, so you can use it, edit it, change it as you like.

Monitoring locations

Our server technology uses different locations worldwide, that can give you the best possible information about your server uptime from various locations. Monitoring from just one location has one big pitfall - even ideally created monitoring software is not able to discover network problems on the way to the monitored site, so it may put many false alarms to you as a client, even if your website is 100% available to 99% of world population, the only network of monitoring server is offline. That's why I-monitor.xyz gives you 100% non-false alarms by monitoring your website from 10 different locations worldwide. If your site is offline for at least 3 nodes, then we consider your site as unavailable and send you an alert.

Minecraft server hosting

Minecraft became a legend even though the graphic side of the game is "terrible" in comparison with nova days first person shooters or arcade games. The success is based on open world with almost unlimited possibilities. Many players starts playing on their private servers hosted on their home computers. Because the game is quite addictive, your friends demand 24/7 access to the server and you also need to do something else, there is a way to host your Minecraft world at specialised hosting.

It is possible to use common server hosting, but there is the need to custom configuration, testing the environment and it could be quite a time consuming to manage the server in long term.

Because Minecraft is so popular and there is constant demand for new “Minecraft servers” – many hosting companies offer specialised Minecraft hosting.  These hosting are highly customized for Minecraft players and admins. These servers are ready to use with new world or cloned worlds from players home server. Their often come with preinstalled services like TeamSpeak or Mumble for comfort communications between players. The offer FTP connection and control panel for the administrator. Backup of the database is in tarrif, usually once per day.

The hosting plans are based on number of players, so you can rent as “big” server, as many is your friends or as many public players would you like to invite to play with you.

The prices are not so high as dedicated servers for business purposes and some of them can be even funded by players trough SMS donate system.

Quality of farmers market - Basics of marketing

2017-09-18, 1 months ago

Each farmer's market must comply with the Codex of Farming Markets. The farmer's code may be issued by the relevant ministry of the country. The aim of the Code is to contribute to greater consumer protection and better orientation on the farmer's market. It mainly depends on the consideration given by the market operator whether it will only require compliance with the basic rules or will be more stringent in complying with all rules and more rigorous when choosing suppliers of products.

Variety of offers

The new potential consumer will mainly attract the offer of exhibited products, but to become the regular customer the market must meet its quality requirements. An important aspect in the eyes of customers is that farmers' markets be distinguished from hypermarkets. Not only in personal contact with a farmer, but also in quality and fresh offer. Consumers do not expect the widest range of products, but they depend on the high quality of the products sold. What farmers will offer more in variety and regional products, the better for their sales. "The market can offer other fresh and homemade goods - milk and dairy products, meat and meat products, fresh pastries, confectionery, cakes, berries, mushrooms and more. There are also crafts products in the markets, such as baskets, wooden crockery, candles, ceramics, and lace. If you are interested, you can make an exception and allow the sale of some specialties of foreign neighbours. Market operators should also be aware of who sells their sellers in their marketplace and in the event of a breach of rules, these dealers should be immediately expelled from the markets.

Market equipment

Farmers' markets can usually be found in an open space, in a downtown square, or in a roofed area, which is more enjoyable in case of very hot or rainy weather for both customers and sellers. When implementing a market, operators must not forget enough space for stalls to allow retailers enough space to exhibit their products just as they must think of customers who need space to buy. "From the point of view of the dealers, it is more advantageous when the site is prepared by the operator or, for example, by the municipal technical services. They do not have to compose and decompose in the morning and in the evening. The operator should obtain further details. Sale of animal products cannot be done without electricity (to connect refrigeration equipment). It is also important to provide drinking water, preferably hot, and toilets. The operator must also solve the waste management (ensure the containers and their collection). Market visitors will also appreciate a simple sitting: just a few benches. If the retailers also offer snacks, there should be prepared tables. "

Accompanying program

Other new customers will often attract a suitable accompanying program to create a better social atmosphere on the market. People go to the markets to have fun, meet friends, not just shop. "A nice example of the accompanying program are thematic festivities (potato, pumpkin, apple), folk craft demonstrations, theaters and concerts or various events for children"

Free radios that does not play just modern pop music

2017-09-26, 1 months ago

Do you have any recurring playlists of all radio stations, One Direction and other populist boyband? Do you like the normal music, which is made by people? I have some typs for you.

1. Rock Max

It's Czech regional radio, there are several versions on the internet - Live, Hard, Oldies and Blue.
The "Live" option is a regular Rock Max radio that you tune on the radio.
The "Hard" variant plays harder pieces that fans do not have to appreciate (current playlists - Imortela, Carcass, Metallica, Lacuna Coil, Iron Maiden).
The "Oldies" version is not only rock, but oldies pop (the current playlist - This, Bruce Springsten, Beatles, Deep Purple, U2).
"Blue" is the most comfortable option because it plays country, bluegrass, etc. (current playlist - Ray Charles, Rolling Stones, Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong, Norah Jones, Hugh Laurie - yes, it is actor - Dr. House)

2. 102.1 The Edge

The best radio I've ever come across. Although it is Toronto, I found a lot of new groups that are not so familiar with us or are not known at all (USS, Sam Roberts Band ...). They often play Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Kings Of Leon, Billy Talent, Tegan and Sarah, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Arcade Fire, Three Days Grace, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Linkin Park, Muse, Oasis, etc. There is not such a radio in our country. Unlike the previous radio, it no longer shows the current playlist, nor what will be played in the next few moments, but you can easily find fiction songs from the previous day as well. The song "Pumped Up Kickes", which was a "terrible hit", has been playing for at least a year. The same "Tongue Tied".
Plus you practice English. When I listen to Canadian English, I understand them more and more after these years. :)

ONLYOFFICE: not so famous, but interesting office package

2017-10-18, 1 months ago

Do you know the office package ONLYOFFICE? Probably not, it's a very interesting application set, that you can use on your computer as well as in the cloud. Developers can also easily integrate it into another system.

ONLYOFFICE, or "just an office"

Where did the ONLYOFFICE office suite come from? Most people have not heard about it yet. In 2009, in the Latvian company Ascensio System SIA, the project TeamLab was born, starting with an intranet solution, including wikis, blogs and forums. Since then, this has gradually been "packed".

In 2010, instant messaging and project management added, in 2011 added calendar, document management and CRM system. The first step towards a real office suite was made in 2012 with the implementation of an HTML5 document editor. At the end of 2013, the first cloud office for personal use was released, then TeamLab Personal. In mid-2014, source codes (under the Affero GPL license) were opened and at the same time renamed to: ONLYOFFICE. At the end of the same year, Linux version was released.

The big news came in 2015 - Enterprise Edition, iOS (iPhone) editor and document management, online document editor for Linux and the ONLYOFFICE Mail Server mail server. A year later they were desktop editors (which were also opened), spreadsheets, Android applications, Hosting Edition and plugin support. This year (2017), integration with the ownCloud, Nextcloud, and Microsoft SharePoint systems has succeeded.

ONLYOFFICE from a closer look

Thus, ONLYOFFICE is not the only office package, but the whole group of packages developed together. You can install and use the desktop version for free. You can also install an online version on your server and use it here anywhere, including through mobile apps (for Android and iOS). Alternatively, you can use the cloud version provided as a "software as a service" (SaaS).

With integration capabilities (connectors), ONLYOFFICE can be part of your ownCloud, Nextcloud, Alfresco, etc., but can also be integrated into the corporate information system.

The desktop version is completely open, the rest of the versions are generally paid. Nonprofit and school organizations, however, have a free cloud version.

The ONLYOFFICE package is translated into 21 languages. In spite of their little acquaintance, the creators speak about two million users. Supports both major document formats (Open Document Format and Office Open XML), as well as RTF, HTML, PDF, EPUB or CSV formats.

Where to get it and how to install

Cloud version is provided as a service, so just register on the creators' site and start using ONLYOFFICE. Once the monthly trial period has expired, you need to start paying. The price depends on the number of users and starts at 48 dollars per year, respectively. 72 for 3 years; at this price there are 2 users and 8 GB of storage space.

Pricing for Enterprise Edition installation licenses also depends on the number of users (minimum 50) and the functional scale (maximum number of portals and possible accessibility of the extended control panel). They are paid in once and start at $ 600. In the case of integration, it pays for a development license, or for a SaaS solution or cluster.

The desktop version can be downloaded for free from the project site and installed. Windows installation packages (32-bit and 64-bit versions, all Windows versions from XP to 10), OS X (10.10 and later), and Linux (64-bit versions are available, packages for Ubuntu and derivatives, , Fedora and Red Hat / CentOS). Linux also has a portable version that does not install, just unpack it. Desktop version source codes are on GitHub.

We use the desktop version of ONLYOFFICE

After installing or unpacking the Linux portable package, you just need to run the application. After starting, a file menu appears, which can be viewed at any time later. You can create a new document (text, spreadsheet or presentation), open an existing file (either a recent document or choose a specific file directly), or use other features - but they are dependent on linking to the ONLYOFFICE portal (in the cloud or on your own server).

You work with docs as you are used to from other office packages. It is necessary to accept that the functional scale is not as wide as in LibreOffice or Microsoft Office, but everything commonly used there - including styles, comments, tracking changes, inserting mathematical formulas, spell checking and so on.

The user interface is similar to what we know from the latest version of Microsoft Office - the ribbon. However, there is no live preview, you need to make this change and then roll back to see some changes. The opening files and creating new documents takes a few seconds to wait. However, the normal work with the document is already swift. Although ONLYOFFICE supports ODF, it only applies to text documents and spreadsheets. Presentations can only be saved in OOXML (* .pptx) and PDF formats.

ONLYOFFICE is an interesting alternative to familiar office packages - desktop and web, free and proprietary. Because of its user interface, it can be especially suited to Microsoft Office users. Thanks to high-quality document viewing and the availability of all common tools, this package can be used for routine work. However, if you often open documents or create new ones, you will experience the unpleasant slowness of these operations.

Security Views: Encryption yesterday and today

2017-10-20, 1 months ago

Today, we will look at the growth of SSL / TLS certificates, we will return certificates to GlobalSign, let's look at the vulnerability in the Linux kernel and mention attacks on a large DNS provider.

The number of characters in the tweet cannot exceed 140. However, this is enough to provide an interesting report worth further analysis. Josh Aas tweeted last week: "Mozilla telemetry shows that over 50% of pages were uploaded over HTTPS yesterday. That's the first time this has happened. "Even though Firefox had a browser market share of just under 8% in September 20, the statcounter.com portal is still a representative sample in September 2016. However, this can be complemented with additional Google statistics. In 2016, up to 85% of the total number of requests for Google servers was encrypted. Google is up 7% from January 2016 to September 2016. For the same period, Mozilla is up 9%. When we imagine how much traffic is hidden in one percent, for example, in Google, it is a very significant shift in such a short period of time.

However, behind this number is a couple of certification authorities that have started to provide free SSL certificates for browsers. These are mainly Let's Encrypt, Cloudflare or Amazon. They are signed up under the high growth of encrypted communications. The implementation of SSL certificates from recognized certification authorities has also been a source issue in the past. With the gradual development of free certificates, the demand rose and the same Josh Aas (Head of Let's Encrypt) just a few days later tweeted that the number of valid certificates they issued exceeded 10,000,000.

In addition to the price, the use of certificates and their exchange has been greatly simplified by users. For Let's Encrypt itself, it is a great success, that they did not expect when started running the service.

A significant shift in the rapid implementation of SSL certificates has also contributed significantly to global and domestic hosting companies that could benefit from offering free SSL certificates as a competitive advantage.

Because of the significantly reduced security risk of encrypted communication between the client and the server, the free provision of SSL certificates has a significant impact on improving the security of most sites and services in this regard. Whether we talk about passing passwords to site administration, cookies, but also making it difficult to insert malware into the site or to enter the client-server communication.

Our observations

But certificates are not as safe as they might seem at first sight. GlobalSign has inadvertently launched the revocation of brokerage certificates, causing a breach of confidence between GlobalSign and its customers. Many webmasters were negatively identified because their site was presented as untrustworthy or the browser refused access to that page. For companies whose core business lies on the web, it can be a huge loss. An attempt to correct certificate errors is also the fact that different apps and browsers have different updates, so it may take some time for the user to get the service without any trouble.

The new bank trojan is remarkably similar to the well-known Dyre banking trojan. The new malware called TrickBot has many similarities to Dyre, but it also contains plenty of differences. Given that people behind Dyr were supposed to be behind bars, the confirmation of the same people behind TrickBote would raise a number of questions. Currently, TrickBot targets mostly Australian banks.

"Dirty Cow" is the name of the vulnerability that has been in place for nine years in all Linux systems. This vulnerability allows a root-based device to gain access rights to a root-based device and completely control it. Vulnerability is relatively easy to exploit, which puts great pressure on its rapid patching. Several abuse of this vulnerability has been confirmed. In addition, it is also found in the Linux kernel, which is part of almost all distributions including Debian, Red Hat, and Ubuntu. The kernel has been patched and most distributions have already released patches.

One day services like Twitter, GitHub, Reddit, Paypal, and others were unavailable for several hours. The reason was that their DNS provider was under a strong DDoS attack that was targeting their data centers. The attack involved IoT devices that are infected with Mirai malware. This malware is targeted at devices such as routers or security cameras, which, after being compromised, become part of a large botnet. Mirai malware source code was released this year.

LinkedIn, MySpace, Tumbler or Dropbox joined Weebly. Thousands of user data from all of these networks. Weebly is a platform for hosting and creating websites and has lost 43,430,316 customers in the past week. Stolen data includes usernames, email addresses, passwords and IP addresses. The passwords were overwritten by the Bcrypt hash algorithm, which would make it harder to get real passwords. Hashes were probably also using Salt, a random string added to the hash process to boost the password and make it crack even more challenging. Although it is not known whether the crack was password, Weebly called on the user to change them.

OnlyOffice opens the code: nice interface, worse compatibility

2017-10-20, 1 months ago

The Linux office is not just LibreOffice. Relatively interesting is also the OnlyOffice package, which recently released source codes. The software is user-friendly, but the impression spoils various unfinished functions.

You may not have heard of the OnlyOffice office suite developed by Ascensio System. And there is no wonder. OnlyOffice focuses mainly on corporate clients that offer a product as Microsoft Office as free as LibreOffice. At least so boldly present the official site of the project.

OnlyOffice offers classic desktop applications, mobile apps, and web editors. Only desktop applications are available freely and we will be the ones in this article. You do not need a subscription or any account. Just desktop applications have been newly released as open source, but otherwise they are available for a long time. They support Linux, Windows and MacOS.

Alternative office packages are often LibreOffice or OpenOffice, but this is not the case. OnlyOffice is software created from scratch. While of course it is possible that some pieces of free projects were used.

As far as Linux support is concerned, it is at a very good level. DEB and RPM packages are available for many distribution versions (including the older Ubuntu 12.04) and adders can also add repositories for updates. For other distributions, a universal installer is available. All this is only for 64-bit systems. The Windows XP and Vista support, which many other programs have already written off, is also very impressive.

First impressions

The first impression will be the fact that even though OnlyOffice manages to work with text files, spreadsheets and presentations, all this is served by one single application. This would not be as interesting in itself, but OnlyOffice open files rank in cards similar to a web browser. This means that you have only one window and many cards in it - you can also have documents, spreadsheets and presentations at the same time. Personally, I like it very much. However, there are also users with the opposite view, who will not be pleased that the official option to display documents in separate windows does not exist.

As for the speed of the program, I have no fundamental objections. You almost do not expect anything and the interface response is satisfactory, if not perfect. The speed of switching between cards is lightning-fast. This is related to the use of memory, where it is a bit worse. If you only have a text document editor open, OnlyOffice will take around 150 MB. However, if you use the modules for spreadsheets and presentations, you can get up to 500 MB altogether. In this respect, LibreOffice is much better off. When used similarly, the memory consumption is between 50-120 MB.

OnlyOffice although not speak many local languages, but at least it is available to control the local spelling, resulting in a narrower offer about thirty languages which is ok, I think. However, there is a lack of support for local data and currency formats, which limits serious use in the other, than english environment, for example in companies.

Function: for the majority of users

Is OnlyOffice really capable as Microsoft Office and free as LibreOffice? It is not. It has far as many functions as none of them. I would say roughly a quarter of the possibilities of this competition. At the same time, it is more capable than Google Docs. Ask yourself how many LibreOffice options you actually use. If you do not write a diploma thesis or something similar, OnlyOffice will probably give you everything you need.

As for the interface, we are somewhere in the middle. This time between Microsoft Office with Ribbon and LibreOffice. All the options are constantly in your eyes, and when you click, you get the option to choose exactly what you want. However, long and multi-level quotes are not available. It is seldom likely that a feature menu opens in a separate window. This is only the case where it is really needed - for example, with the graph insertion guide.

Together it is used very well. Setup and formatting is very fast, as there is no need to search for extensive offers. I have to say that the authors have done well to hit what users need and what is most unnecessary for most of them. In use, I found only one option that I missed more, namely the ability to select my own colours for individual graph elements.

Test for 2,400+ Android and iOS devices

2017-10-25, 1 months ago

Nowadays, when most mobile application software is created and distributed on a continuous basis, it is also necessary to ensure ongoing automation of mobile software testing throughout the world. With Android and iOS mobile applications, it is a problem to test for a huge number of HW variants, display sizes, editions of operating systems from different manufacturers in different parts of the world on real devices. Simulators and emulators are mostly not the right ones. If I'm already testing how to make my own beta distribution a true real tester across platforms?

Let's quickly introduce one of the world's most used services for this purpose. These are Xamarin Test Cloud and HockeyApp. Both services are highly independent of development technologies and platforms, but have recently been purchased by Microsoft, the latest developer and tester of Android and iOS applications. Both services will be part of the upcoming integrated multiplatform DevOps service of Microsoft Visual Studio Mobile Center.

Xamarin Test Cloud is a remote cloud service for testing mobile applications on real devices. It's actually a server room full of physical Android and iOS devices and utilities. It is designed for massive execution of automated UI tests on many different types of devices. It is independent of Xamarin technology, you can test applications written in virtually all types of technologies, run them manually, or use any instrument below for the CI / CD orchestration.

At the beginning of the process, you need to create a universal automated test, which then multiplies, triggers and checks, and reports clearly. You can use the Xamarin UI Test, Calabasch (Rubby) or the Appium Framework to create UI test scripting. But I certainly recommend testing the new Xamarin Test Recoder for Visual Studio or iOS - it will greatly save your work with testing because it generates what you do on a physical device or a simulator.

Xamarin Test Cloud supports gestures, major physical phone sensors such as GPS, buttons, camera, rotation, etc. After performing tests, you get very clear overall reports with details on the device.

At present, two Xamarin Cloud Tests are actually working. The newly upgraded version is already part of a larger package - Microsoft VS Mobile Center. You can try both in free trial mode.

HockeyApp - beta distribution for iOS, Android, OS X, and Windows

In most cases, it is not enough to test applications on a large number of different physical devices. The app should also be continuously provided to a limited number of specific people who already have their own phones and tablets. From them, collect real bugs and analyse potential crashes, ideally also get feedback from real use by the tester. Yes, virtually all public beta distribution stores have, but everyone else and interactions with beta testers are not well secured. Here is HockeyApp.

The goal of HockeyApp is to ensure simple and continuous beta distribution of new versions, collection of usage information, and the ability to interact with the beta team with the development team. If the application is already final, there is also a unified collection of user metrics and telemetry across platforms. In general, this is a very important part of Mobile DevOps workflow.

Unlike UI testing, there is more to go into the code - to be able to insert the instrumentation for data collection. This is done by client SDKs, which are publicly available including source codes, and even for Unity.

Beta distribution does not go into different public application stores, but first into a unified private application point for testers, where all platforms and applications are together, all are configured, co-operative, reporting, etc. Tester's online application, they also have additional functionality available, for example, to send feedback to the dev team from the application. The development portal contains different types of reports on user and application behaviour. HockeyApp can be used or tested for free in a free single user plan.

Visual Studio Mobile Center

As mentioned above, both of the above services will also be part of the upcoming mobile DevOps package in Visual Studio Mobile Center.

This cloud service is now available as a preview, on-demand, and covers the entire lifecycle of mobile applications. In its current form, it offers the following services:

  • Buildy - continuous integration and Release management
  • Tests - Automatic Tests on Actual Devices (Xamarin Test Cloud)
  • Crash reporting - real-time crash reporting
  • Distribution - deployment to users or tester
  • Analytics - business and usage metrics
  • Authentication - integration with authentication systems
  • EasyTables - a simple cloud data storage for mobile backend
  • Support is currently only available for Android and iOS applications written in Objective-C, Swift, Java, Xamarin, and React Native. Future versions are supposed to support UWP applications and Cordes.

All the features are, you can use the REST API in addition to the web interface. Read the documentation.

Intranet - theory, practise

2017-11-07, 1 months ago

The intranet is a standalone or private part of the internet transferred to the internal environment of a corporate or academic local LAN. The intranet works on interconnected network hardware that allows users to access and retrieve resources from within the network and access non-intranet access to people without access rights.

Intranet started at the same time as the first academic network, which was before the Internet itself. The first intranet pages were pages with static content. There has been an idea that has been preserved to this day: create private sites that would only appear in protected areas of the server, divide content and create simple profiles that assign users access rights and who determines who can and can see.

Today, most of larger and some smaller businesses use some accounting, financial or complex business system, often based on web technologies. Many companies today consider the most important part of the database system in which much of their information is stored. Driving, apparently, with a sentence: "Everything is data, data is information, and you are in the database." Everything around is just a way of accessing these data.

Classical enterprise information system

The business system can be created as a client application querying the database, but it can also work with a web-based enterprise information system. And the intranet is one way of accessing data.

From the perspective of the user, the intranet is an environment in which it behaves the same to many different information sources. In practice, this means that he pays a pizza from the same environment, finds a new phone number, and plans his subordinates to make the most of their time.

The base and the center of the intranet network is a web server that can be a standalone computer or just a software extension of a classic network server. The primary requirement of such a connection is TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol) support, or "Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol". It is actually a group of protocols used on the Internet to distinguish the recipient of the message.

Although it depends on the requirements of each individual company what it will require from its intranet, there are a few basic elements that should be common to all:

  1. Modularity
  2. Kernel
  3. Administrative module
  4. Availability
  5. Ability to use current technologies
  6. Adapting to business standards and practices
  7. Help
  8. Updates
  9. Feedback

The intranet should be modular, which means that the individual applications and tools used should be replaceable, easily updated and manageable at any time.

The basic module of the system (intranet kernel) that can run individual lines and other modules, recognizes individual users' rights, works with databases, displays modules and web applications in given layouts.

Allows text content to be filled, inserting graphics into pre-selected layouts, adding links to other pages. It is a tool for setting user rights, creating groups, editing and creating profiles, modules, applications, linking and sharing data.

The module displays links to the most recent events in the company (internal) and current Internet news (external), for example: links to news, weather, stock indices, etc.

A stand-alone calendar with information on the current time and date, from which anyone with the right to install corporate events, seminars, and other time-dependent information can be added to the admin section. Reminders of individual tasks and appointments.

This module is capable of emailing POP3 mail handling from anywhere and / or IMAP to work with a corporate exchange server.

(eMeet - electronic consultations)

This module is part of most websites and intranet systems. Discussion boards can act as a place and tool for electronic consultations.

A simple module for viewing traffic statistics. It allows a more precise focus of business on a specific customer segment.

Module for recording corporate and private contacts, linking the database to the possibility of sending offers and news.

This module is part of the vast majority of intranet systems. This can be a web page that is accessible to the user and his / her profile and allows you to see, for example, your own notes.

The IS report could be a universal module that can look directly into the database or via a client application or form into the enterprise information system and provide a report based on user requirements and rights. It can act as an interface between a closed enterprise IS and an intranet that is also accessible from an external environment, such as a PDA, to provide information when needed.

This module is one of the cornerstones of an interactive intranet. An administrator can create a homepage for each team in the company, add new modules to them, share certain parts of each other, and save time, identify the authorized person for their administration and posts and links.

In Windows, you can now run Ubuntu, openSUSE, SLES, and Fedora, and others will come

2017-11-24, 1 months ago

Windows Subsystem for Linux got a big update along with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. It offers other Linux distributions and, in addition to the original Ubuntu, you are already natively in Windows running SUSE or Fedora.

Windows Subsystem for Linux is no longer named "Bash on Windows", but Microsoft names it according to the distribution you install. You can have "Ubuntu on Windows Subsystem for Linux", "OpenSUSE on Windows Subsystem for Linux" and so on. The distribution menu has also expanded, besides the original Ubuntu, you can also install openSUSE, SLES or Fedora.

The ability to run natively Linux applications in Windows was launched at the beginning of last year, it's actually Wine Outside: It's not about virtualization or editing Windows running programs (like Cygwin). Microsoft has added a compatibility layer to its systems that provides applications with Linux APIs and allows them to run directly natively.

Microsoft is gradually working on improving this feature and integrating the Windows Linux environment. The latest update no longer runs bash.exe, which installed the Ubuntu. Now, you simply choose the distribution from the Microsoft Store and install it as a regular application.

The older solution called "Bash on Ubuntu on Windows" remains functional, but is considered obsolete and will not be maintained. Microsoft recommends to uninstall and migrate data to one of the newly supported distributions.

To install, you must enable the "Windows Subsystem for Linux" property and reboot the system. Then you search for "Linux" in Microsoft Store and choose your favorite Linux distribution.

It is still a feature designed primarily for developers who primarily use the Linux command line. However, it is also possible to run desktop applications experimentally. The advantage is that it is possible to install multiple distributions next to each other, all have their own disk space and can be run at the same time.

The advantage of integration is that you can share Windows files so you can use the same files in multiple distributions. At the same time, a Windows network stack is used, so it is possible to run server services in a common way in a Linux environment, linking each environment to each other.

Learn to write interesting corporate newsletters step by step

2017-12-14, 1 months ago

Share clients with news, improve their relationship to your business, and lure them to buy new products. This is the main mission of corporate newsletters. But to be really successful, it is not enough to have a new or discounted product. That's why we have prepared a list of 10 steps that will lead you to interesting newsletters.

Step 1: Clarify the content

Before you start typing and planning newsletters, you need to know what you want to offer to subscribers. Will they be new products? Trend information? Case studies? Or maybe everything together?

So determine what information you are going to provide to readers and how many in each email. Let them know what to expect.

Step 2: Consider the appropriate frequency

If someone sends you newsletters three times a day, you probably send it to your spam folder. And if he writes you once every six months, you'll forget him. Think about it when thinking about the frequency of your newsletters. Newsletter can not be send too often or too little.

It is essential that you have something to say in the e-mail. So if you are not sure you will have enough news, choose a longer interval.

Step 3: Do not try to sell at any cost

The corporate newsletter is not primarily a selling tool. Therefore, forget about the continuous presentation of your products and PR superlatives of the "awesome performance" or "unique design" type. This is not what newsletter reader is not interested.

It's better to simply introduce a new product, show its benefits, and let the reader study the details on your site.

Step 4: Tune the subject

The subject is essential not only for corporate newsletters. It often decides whether to open an email client. Therefore, it must be interesting for the reader. For example, show some of the news and/or use numbers.

The subject can also be slightly mysterious - just do not overdo it to end in the spam folder.

Step 5: Play with the sender

Surely, you can send the newsletter just under the head of your company or marketing department. But if you want to be more interested, send it on behalf of a specific employee. The reader will act more personally.

Or you can think of a brand new sender. Never forget to mention the business name.

Step 6: Do not forget the introductory sentence

Once the reader in the e-mail client moves the mouse to the subject, he will see an introductory sentence behind it. So try and attract your customer to open a newsletter. Just write it in the smallest font - not to disturb the body of the e-mail.

The beginning of the introductory sentence is especially important. Readers will be shown even if you splash a little with the length of the subject. Therefore, pay special attention to it.

Step 7: Tune the Headline

Forget about addressing the reader. No one is waiting for the newsletter. More important is the correct headline. Unlike addressing, it can attract and "force" to read the entire newsletter. That's why you can easily win with it just as you did with the subject.

Step 8: Watch out for graphics

The newsletter needs to be read by the reader not only in content but also in appearance. Also, keep in mind that many e-mail clients do not usually see external images, and that emails are increasingly appearing in smart phones or tablets. So choose a template that will not only be nice but also responsive and it will work without external pictures

Finally add your logo and contacts to it. Let the reader know where to turn.

Step 9: No Long Texts

The newsletter must be airy, so that the reader does not repel an infinite number of letters. So do not forget to structure it enough. At the same time, be concise - whether you want to show a new product or draw attention to a birthday party, try to enter a few sentences.

Keep longer text on your blog and link it to the newsletter.

Step 10: Communicate naturally

In general, corporate newsletters may not be dry and boring. On the contrary, they should be fresh, light and readable. But remember, first of all, all corporate communications must be consistent.

So if the jokes do not belong to your vocabulary, be really, really cautious with them in the newsletter.

BSD with HiPI and Wayland, TrueOS adds improvements around OpenRC

2018-01-26, 1 months ago

NVM Express 'wire' testing, two new Linux Mint 18.3 variants, HDR10 + open support for Amazon Video, Mir 0.29, and Nvidia GPU Inno3D mining card.

TrueOS in the new version of 17.12 brings a revised OpenRC

The unix system formerly known as PC-BSD, continues its "mission" for FreeBSD as a friend of ordinary people. The latest release has been focused on code cleaning and stabilization of important features such as OpenRC, system startup speeds, removable device management, SysAdm API integration, Lumina desktop enhancing,

New installation images are also available for server versions with a text installer, including support for virtualization systems (bhyve,…). Thanks to the FreeBSD server, you can also add to the list the OpenRC management and reporting with Sane, a reliable non-interactive update mechanism plus fail-safe boot, TrueOS server graphics management through SysAdm, LibreSSL as a base for SSL, etc. The system is also smaller by removing old versions of GCC (can be installed) and support for new graphics cards and chipsets (including Wi-Fi, ethernet, etc.).

Overall, support for OpenRC services is available for more than 1100 third-party packages. The creators also redesigned OpenRC for FreeBSD itself, making the system even faster. The base of the system (FreeBSD base) is based on version 12.0-CURRENT of December 4, 2017 (Github commit 209d01f), the ports are based on the version of November 30, the desktop Lumina then upgraded from 1.3.0 to 1.4.1, PCDM supports more concurrent graphic sessions. Integrated support for all major file systems (UFS, Ext, FAT, exFAT, NTFS,…).

NVM Express has further tested NVMe Over Fabrics

NVM Express is a highly paralleled and significantly more flexible data transfer interface (especially when compared to the old AHCI hard drives) that we are actually finding in many SSDs. The roofing organization of the past month is preparing support for this protocol over longer distances. Conformity testing has recently been carried out within NVMe Plugfest at the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Laboratory at the turn of October and November.

It was the first such testing of the new part of NVM Express, including the use of RoCE (Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) over Converged Ethernet) and Fiber Channel. The output is 14 new certified products on NVMe Integrators list and one on NVMe-MI Integrators. Eight news appear on the new list of NVMe-oF Integrators (includes RoCE / Ethernet elements, Fiber Channel elements and software). Another NVMe Plugfest will be held in the spring of 2018.

Quick news

  • The latest Linux Mint 18.3 also comes in KDE and Xfce desktop versions with MATE and Cinnamon "home" desktops.
  • A small light distribution based on Debian comes in a new version. MX Linux 17 builds on Debian 9.3 (as Slax), Xfce 4.12.3 ad. It supports both 32bit x86 and multi-RAM machines with a PAE-enabled kernel.
  • Amazon released the first 100 HDR10 + movies for this year's (4k) Samsung TVs. This is an exciting feature thanks to the fact that Samsng's HDR10 + HDR HD format, unlike Dolby Vision, is free of license fees, is also supported by dynamic metadata.
  • By the new contributor to this Wayland composer, Weston has received a non-embedded patch for FreeBSD support, static backend linking, GL renderer, and better scaling on HiPI monitors. It is recommended to try Intel / AMD graphics kernels. So far, however, it is unclear whether the patches will be included in the project, as it would be more code-based, and Weston developers have no experience with BSD development.
  • Mir 0.29 improves support for Wayland. In addition, there were adjustments related to the ability to run Mir on Fedora (26, 27, Rawhide), documentation updates, or screenshot support through shared memory and SHM buffers.
  • Inno3D publishes a special graphics card for cryptographic mining. The P104-100 Crypto-Mining Accelerator boosts performance by 40% over the previous model and supports 4GB of 11GHz GDDR5X memory. The GPU carries 1920 CUDA cores, the TDP card is 180 watts (it is powered by an 8-pin PCIe connector), and it does not have any graphics outputs.
  • Freshly named Nvidia Titan V, with a $ 3,000 price tag, raises many questions. When it came out in the reviews it was not even a fifth faster than the previous, much cheaper generation, it was clear that Volta's GPU generation was not as strong in games as elsewhere. The first server has tested cryptoscopy and, for example, with Ethereum, Titan achieves over 80 MH / s (depending on the overclocking rate).
